Fish thrive in the Wye

Posted on Wednesday, 31 March 2010 01:47PM by Peak Times
TROUT are flourishing in the River Wye, according to new Environment Agency figures.

The agency revealed on Tuesday that the stretch between Buxton and Rowsley now contains more brown trout than almost any other part of the River Trent or its tributary rivers.

Tests also confirmed improvements in water quality, which the Environment Agency said was due to the £14million revamp of Buxton's sewage works.

Officer Stuart King said: "The new sewage treatment plant has resulted in a tremendous improvement in the water quality of the River Wye.

"This improved water quality has allowed brown trout, and the invertebrates they feed on, to thrive."
